4 Dead in Larcomar Fire

Four people have been confirmed dead after a fire in a Larcomar movie theater during a morning press screening of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” The fire apparently spread through flammable sound dampening material and spread to other stores in Larcomar.

Larcomar is one of the most popular tourist destinations of Lima. It’s a beautiful shopping center set on the Costa Verde overlooking the ocean. The cinema is located on the lower level of the shopping center, meaning you have to climb up several sets of stairs to evacuate.

I’ve attended press screenings of films myself at Larcomar, and on another occasion I was in the theater when an earthquake hit (which was terrifying).

The fire started from unknown causes and apparently the crowd had to break down the doors to escape and then were evacuated along with the 200 people who were in Larcomar at the time.
