Writing for Medium

Over the last few months I have made a concerted effort to build a portfolio on Medium. As of now, I have approximately 300 published articles that are providing a regular monthly income. In this article I’ll give you a few pointers about what Medium is and how you can maximize your earnings there.

Where does Medium revenue come from?

Medium pays authors based on a formula that takes into account how much time platform members spend reading your articles. It’s therefore possible for an article to go viral but result in limited earnings for the author. It’s also possible for an author to make a lot of money even on limited views.

To date, my most successful article on Medium is ‘My Morning Fight with a Trump Supporter‘ which has earned me close to $800 on 14.1k views.

You’ll notice that this article had a huge spike in the early days, but for several weeks after publication it was regularly making $10 a day. This income sometimes came off of only 4 or 5 views.

You can choose a free account

Medium does offer a free account, but I would encourage anyone who is really interested in the platform to sign up for a paid account. It only costs $50 a year, and interacting with other authors is critical for creating a lucrative community.

I’ve written a variety of articles about how to get started on Medium, all of which are collected and introduced in my article ‘How to Maximize Your Medium Earnings.’

Going forward

I’ve found Medium to be a very enjoyable platform up to this point. I’ve been very occupied establishing myself within the community, but now I have developed a significant enough following that I expect I can do a few more articles for Streets of Lima.

I’d especially like to use this web page to discuss the various reactions I have received on my most recent articles. Here are some recent articles that are generating a lot of interaction:

Worry About Writing, Not Publishing
