The Metropolitano in Lima

I finally got a chance to ride the metropolitano in Lima.  Back in the old days I used to take the buses on the via expressa almost every day. Back then there were a series of multi colored buses that you needed to choose from.  I used to wait for the Number 2 bus which was green that would take me all the way to Los Olivos where I used to work.

These days all the buses are the same color, and I didn’t take the time to learn whether or not there are different buses that go on different routes (I think there are).

The above picture is the boarding/unboarding area which is pretty nice.  One of the big improvements is that you now pay at the gate before getting on board.  What that means is there aren’t a bunch of random people waiting around down below who are only there to rob you and not get on a bus.  Actually, all a thief would have to do is pay the S/. 1.5 fee (or whatever it is, somebody paid mine) and they could wait around down there, but that would be an “investment” and a lot of thieves are too dumb to do something like that (if they kept track of their receipts, I suppose they could declare the bus fee cost as a business expense).

Anyway, the whole metropolitano is superior to what it used to be.  Always nice to see civic improvements in Lima.
